Bisai art exhibit at Adlaw sa Dipolog
DIPOLOG – Award-winning artist Bisai will be showcasing her inaugural solo art exhibit at the Adlaw sa Dipolog event hosted by the city government in partnership with the provincial government of Zamboanga del Norte.
The artist—who is a resident of Dipolog—will be featuring many of her contemporary and modern abstract minimalist paintings during the Bisai Unveiled exhibit at the Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Museum and Art Gallery from June 19 to July 20. This is Bisai’s first in the city of Dipolog and the province of Zamboanga Del Norte as well as her first major solo art exhibition in the Philippines.
Part of the proceeds of artwork sales will be given to the Taglibon Ini Lady Art Collective, a women’s art group in Dipolog that supports project and workshops for local artists.
Dipolog City Mayor Evelyn Uy, the show’s major sponsor, said, “Having been introduced to a new painter from our province and upon seeing her works we strongly support talented residents and would like to share her talents to the rest of the community. We hope this inaugural solo exhibition will inspire many more new and young artists out there to come forward and share their talents with us so we can help promote them via our city’s cultural and art programs which is an integral part of our platform of governance in the city of Dipolog.”
Zamboanga del Norte Governor Roberto Uy said the province is eager to support “new talents who have made headways in their artistic arenas abroad and in the national” scene.
“Bisai’s paintings are uniquely different from what we have exhibited from past and we think this will give a fresher perspective for art loving Filipinos when they see emerging artists showcase their beautiful pieces at our publicly owned provincial museum and art gallery. I invite the public to come and view her works,” Uy said.
Bisai entered the Philippine art scene in 2010 and has since exhibited her works in several international major cities such as New York, Toronto, Hawaii, Spain and England.
Bisai’s heavy use of acrylic and oil are evidently seen in many of her abstract minimalist paintings. Speaking to PilipinasToday, Bisai described her work as “an interplay of abstracted visuals that plays emphasis on lights and hues woven with use of palette knives to come up with abstracted pieces that is purely transfigurative and evoking”.
She said, “My works are dominantly light but heavy on the concept. As a lover of anything minimalist, I would like that to resonate to each of my painting where I can convey my messages across a variety of strokes and hues in whatever mediums I use. I like to keep things not so vivid but simple and just plain beautiful.”
