Filipina on death row loses appeal

MANILA - A petition for judicial review of her case filed by a Filipina on death row in Indonesia has been rejected by the Indonesian supreme court, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs on Friday.
Mary Jane Veloso is to be executed by a firing squad along with convicts from Australia, France, Brazil, Ghana and Nigeria.
Veloso, 30, was caught with 2.6 kilos of heroin in her suitcase when she entered Yogyakarta as a tourist in 2010. She told authorities that her friend asked her to bring the package.
Her lawyers earlier argued the technicality of her case, saying that the Filipina single mother was not given a licensed translator during her trial. Foreign Affairs spokesman Charles Jose said that they will use all legal means to help Veloso.
