DUBAI - Three of the Philippines' biggest names in music performed to thundering screams from fans in a packed Dubai Duty Tennis Stadium on Friday night.
Rivermaya, rock band Kamikazee and rapper Gloc-9 thrilled fans, with Gloc-9 setting the tone with a set that saw the fastest rapper in the Philippines play with his band for the first time in Dubai.
Celebrating their 20th anniversary, Rivermaya were next to play with a storming set that saw them mix classic hits such as "Elesi" and "214" with more modern songs, including their current hit ‘Tayo Lang Dalawa’. Accompanied by a custom-made graphic package on the event’s huge LED screen, Rivermaya’s set was the perfect showcase for one of the most loved bands in the history of Original Pinoy Music.
Rounding off the night in front of over 3,000 fans, the mighty Kamikazee - fronted by the eccentric and charismatic figure of Jay Contreras - made their long awaited return to Dubai and they were roared through a collection of songs that were warmly welcomed by fans who had not seen them in the Emirate since 2008. “It’s been far too long and we are so happy to be back with our fans in this part of the world,” said Contreras.
Rivermaya’s Norby David believes shows such as the three-band concert at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium are raising the bar for Filipino artists in the UAE. “It’s shows like this which make us take our game to the next level, “ he said. “We work so hard in rehearsals to give the fans the best possible show as we know how much effort has gone in to giving us the best platform in terms of production.”
