Top 5 high-paying jobs that could kill you
By Jerwel Hipolito, Staff Reporter
Some jobs are well-paying, but they can have their drawbacks. The Bureau of Labor and Statistics recently released a report on jobs that have the highest work injury rates, while job website CareerCast made a list of the jobs we find the most stressful.
Let’s have a look at what these jobs are.
Taxi drivers. (Average salary: AED 4,000 to AED 6,000) Taxi drivers make more money on tips and incentive pay on top of their basic salary but their job is very stressful. Imagine having to deal with the horrendous traffic, various road conditions and some bad drivers on a daily basis. Those plus the constant threat of fatal accidents while they are actually on the road.
Newspaper reporters. (Average salary: AED 10,000 to AED 25,000) Sure, they get treated like VIPs come interview time, but behind this there are deadlines to meet, stories to chase, sources to interview and the occasional libel suit to face. We almost forgot to mention death threats. Who says it’s easy to be a reporter?
PR executives. (AED 15,000 to AED 25,000) Managing a corporation’s image and communication with consumers, investors and the media is a high-stakes occupation. It is emotionally taxing and bad for your health, which probably explains why in the White House alone, most PR execs only last two years.
Event coordinators. (AED 19,000 to AED 30,000) These people constantly juggle their time with clients, vendors and events to make sure everything is in place. They are also required to go places, which essentially means giving up their own personal time for their job.
Senior corporate executives. (Average salary: AED 30,000 to AED 50,000) They rake in the big money… as well as the big pressures of running a corporation and developing initiatives. In one word: $tressful.
