His story
The future was bright for Archie B. Lazaro when he flew to Dubai in 2001 to join the pre-opening team of the new property of a five-star hotel chain in the emirate. Confident and with excellent interpersonal skills, it was no surprise when Archie quickly rose through the ranks from bell boy to bell captain in less than two years. “I believe that is one highlight of my life,” he told PilipinasToday.net.
When his contract with the hotel ended, Archie set his eyes on Emirates, the flagship airline of Dubai. He applied for a job as a ground staff and quickly got hired. “A lot of people dream to be a part of Emirates so for me it is an achievement,” he said. Although he enjoyed the prestige and perks of being a crew member of Dubai’s prestigious airline, the outgoing Archie felt disconnected with the conservative customs of Dubai. Eventually he left for the Philippines where he is now working as the assistant sales manager of Citibank, a career that has spanned eight years.
He considers his stint in Dubai as a learning experience and a stepping stone. “No regrets so far because I wouldn’t be where I am now [if not for my experience in Dubai],” he said.
