39,000 Philippine jobs for Pinoys in UAE, Hong Kong
Staff Report
MANILA - Up to 39,000 teaching positions will be available next year through the K-12 program, and Filipino teachers who have left the country to work as housemaids in Hong Kong and the UAE are the first priority, an official has said.
In an interview on radio DZMM, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) director Nicon Fameronag said the move is part of the government’s goal to prevent professionals from leaving the country to work as housemaids.
Fameronag said interested individuals will be asked to take a test to qualify for the program. Those who have not practiced their profession in three to five years will be asked to take a refresher course.
Fameronag also said the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority have already identified jobs available for Filipino housemaids abroad.
DOLE and POEA will first implement this "career pathing" program for workers in Hong Kong, which will also be implemented for workers in UAE.
