You could be using an expired Nol card

Staff Report

DUBAI - Owners of the first batch of Nol cards issued on August 1, 2009 will no longer be able to use these cards starting in August.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has reminded public transport users in Dubai that some gold, silver and blue Nol cards are expiring on August 1, five years since they were issued.

However, expired Nol cards with balances higher than the required minimum can still be used until their balances run out. The minimum balance for a gold card is AED 5.8, while silver and blue Nol cards require AED 2.9 minimum balance. Gold Nol cards have a minimum balance of AED 11.6.

Khalid Al Awadhi, Director of Automated Fare Collection at RTA’s Corporate Technical Support Services Sector, said Nol card holders may transfer the balance of their expired cards to new cards. Application forms are available at ticketing offices. The cost of a new silver and gold card is AED 20, which includes AED 14 credit balance. A blue card costs AED 70, including AED 20 credit balance.

How to check validity of card

If you are not sure about the validity of your Nol card, just go to any ticketing machine or counter at Metro stations or parking meters in Dubai. When you insert your card into the parking machine, a message will appear regarding its expiration date.
