New rule on gadgets at Philippines, Dubai airports
Staff Report
DUBAI - If you are bringing your mobile phone, laptop, tablet, camera or any electronic gadget at Philippine or Dubai airports, make sure the device can be switched on at airport checkpoints.
The new rule on electronic gadgets affects travelers to the United States, Canada and United Kingdom and is part of heightened security checks after the US Department of Homeland Security issued renewed warnings against terror attacks.
In the Philippines, passengers are also required to separate the batteries from the devices before they go through X-ray machines at check-in counters.
In Dubai, passengers may be asked to turn on their electronic devices. Powerless devices will not be permitted onboard the aircraft.
At the Dubai Airport Terminal 3, there are signs advising passengers to ensure that their electronic devices are charged and can be switched on before boarding.
The new security regulation also applied to electronic devices bought at the Dubai Duty Free, the retailer confirmed. Passengers may be required to open the packaging for security checks.
