Dole to OFWs: Want to become an entrepreneur?

Dubai: Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who want to start their own business may be able to borrow capital through government reintegration program “Balik Pinay, Balik Hanapbuhay”.

The program has seen a huge interest from OFWs, particularly those displaced by the ongoing unrest in Iraq and Libya. Last year, there were 3,705 OFWs who availed of the off; twice the number of beneficiaries registered in 2012.

Under the program, female OFWs are given livelihood or business development assistance of P10,000, which they can use to start a business.

Beneficiaries can receive free training in baking, handicraft production, services related to beauty and health, among others. Starter kits in the service business will also be given to help OFWs easily start a business at home.

Reflexology Massage Home spa Cosmetology Bath soap production Scented oil production Herbal medicine production Health care product distribution House repair services: plumbing, welding, electrical servicing, appliance repair Food processing: native snack preparation, food and beverage preparation Personal accessories repairs and maintenance: cellular phone and bag repairs Handicraft production: souvenir items, fashion jewelry, native slippers, bags and accessories

For those aiming to start a big business, the OFW Reintegration Program offers a loan of up to P2 million, with low interest and no collateral.
